Wrexham vs Charlton: TV channel, team news and predicted line ups

Wrexham could secure a historic third successive promotion when they host Charlton Athletic in the League One fixture on Saturday evening. If Wycombe fail to beat Leyton Orient in the earlier kick-off, then Wrexham will book a place in the Championship with a home win over Charlton.

Phil Parkinson's side jumped back to second place in League One thanks to a 2-1 triumph over Blackpool and were helped by Charlton, who thrashed Wycombe 4-0, putting them in fourth, four points behind Wrexham with two matches remaining.

In fine form

Charlton and Wrexham have been among the most consistent sides in League One of late, which is why both are in the hunt for promotion.

Nathan Jones’ side have suffered just three league defeats in 2025 and is averaging the joint second-most points per game in the competition this season. Wrexham have lost just two domestic affairs since the start of February, averaging two points per game this season.

The Red Dragons are unbeaten in their last eight League One contests, while the Valiants are undefeated in their last six matches, dropping points on only one of those occasions.

Home sweet home

The Red Dragons have enjoyed plenty of success at the Racecourse Ground this season, and their weekend opponents have had a miserable time in North Wales over the years.

Wrexham have only lost one of their seven home matches across all competitions against the Addicks, winning their last three meetings against them at the Racecourse Ground, including a memorable 6-0 hammering in the third round of the FA Cup in 1980, with Mick Vinter scoring a hat-trick.

Keeping the big guns in check

Both teams have some firepower in attack, with Sam Smith scoring 16 times for Reading and Wrexham combined this season, the same amount as Charlton’s Matt Godden. Smith netted once in nine prior meetings against Charlton, and Godden scored once in two meetings versus Wrexham.

Godden has been a clutch performer, scoring five match-winners in this competition, while six of Steven Fletcher’s eight goals this season have been winners. Fletcher has three goals in two appearances versus Charlton, scoring the winner in both of Sheffield Wednesday’s 2019-20 Championship victories against them.

Strong at the back

While both teams boast some strong attacking talent, they are equally dependable defensively. Wrexham have kept 22 clean sheets domestically this season, with Charlton posting 20 in this competition.

Nine of the Addicks' league victories were by a 1-0 score line, and the Red Dragons have won 10 games in this competition by that same margin.
