Blackpool vs Wrexham: TV channel, team news and predicted line ups
Wrexham travel to face Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Easter Monday for the first time since November 2004 for an EFL fixture, with a massive three points at stake for both teams.
Phil Parkinson's side dropped to third following a 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers on Good Friday, while the Tangerines are six points below the play-off spots with a game in hand following a 3-1 victory over Stevenage.
Death and Resurrection
Easter Monday’s have breathed life into one of these sides and killed the other. In the 2000s, Blackpool have lost just two of their 21 league fixtures played on that day and failed to score in only one of those fixtures.
On the other hand, Wrexham have had a rough few outings on Easter Monday, losing their last three football league encounters on that day, conceding two or more goals in each of those games.
Letting it slip
These teams haven’t played each other much over the past couple of decades, but when they do, we’ve seen some memorable comebacks.
The last four times these teams have met across all competitions, they’ve been close one-goal victories.
In all four instances, the team that scored first went on to lose, with the Seasiders coming out on top three times. Earlier this season, Phil Parkinson’s men went behind after just three minutes, but fought back to win 2-1 scoring two minutes before the 90.
Nobody better than Fletcher
Both sides can potentially get promoted thanks to the contributions of a Fletcher that’s shot arrows through the heart of their opponents. On the Blackpool side, Ashley Fletcher has 11 goals to lead the way for Steve Bruce’s men, assisting on the hat trick scored by Rob Apter, the first away hat-trick for a Tangerine player since Matt Phillips at Fleetwood Town in the 2012 FA Cup.
Fletcher’s three assists last week marked the first time each goal in a hat trick of an EFL game was assisted by the same player since February 2021 when Aiden McGeady set up Charlie Wyke four times for Sunderland against Doncaster Rovers. Fletcher had their opening goal against the Red Dragons earlier in the season.
Steven Fletcher leads Wrexham with eight goals in League One, netting the winner when they hosted Blackpool on Boxing Day. The Scotsman is one of the biggest reasons the Red Dragons are so close to a third successive promotion. Fletcher has 10 goals as a substitute for Wrexham, one behind Adrian Cieslewicz for second all-time and four back of Hector Sam.
