Exeter City vs Wrexham: TV channel, team news and predicted line ups
Wrexham will hope to maintain their narrow advantage in the race for automatic promotion from League One when they visit Exeter City this weekend.
The Red Dragons climbed to second thanks to a 1-0 victory over Stockport County last weekend,
and are three points above Wycombe Wanderers who have a game in hand, while the Grecians are up to 16th following a 0-0 draw at Lincoln City.
Defensive stalwarts
The weekend clash will pit two sides who’ve been well-organised and sharp at the back all season. Gary Caldwell’s men have conceded a goal or fewer in all six of their March League One fixtures, gathering four clean sheets along the way.
Wrexham have kept five clean sheets in six league games this month, while Phil Parkinson’s side have won five of their previous six domestic affairs away from home.
Hot Rod
It’s been a frustrating start at Wrexham for Jay Rodriguez, who came to the club during the winter transfer window for big wages from Championship side Burnley.
The former England international had a hard time adjusting to League One. He’s often misfired with his distribution and has forced a huge workload on Sam Smith with his poor play. Last weekend, though, Rodriguez may have had his best performance in a Wrexham shirt.
He followed up his penalty miss with a goal, while his movement and passing was sharper, and he got into more dangerous areas. There was talk about him being dropped before that encounter, though it would be a huge shock if he lost his place this weekend.
He’s a Keeper
The strong defensive units of both sides have made life easier for their two goalkeepers and Arthur Okonkwo and Joe Whitworth each have 14 clean sheets in the league this season.
However, the Crystal Palace loanee hasn’t been as strong a shot-stopper, with a save percentage of only 68.5%, while Okonkwo’s is at 77.6%, good for second in League One behind Ryan Allsop of Birmingham City (79%).
