Wrexham vs West Brom: Team news, predicted line ups and TV channel

Wrexham host West Brom in their first Championship home match of the season.

Wrexham begin their home campaign in the Championship when they host West Bromwich Albion at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday lunchtime.

The Red Dragons were stunned late by Championship favourites Southampton in their opener last weekend, while the Baggies defeated Blackburn Rovers 1-0. This weekend will mark the first competitive clash between Wrexham and West Brom in over 50 years.

New beginnings

Phil Parkinson’s men began the Championship campaign in heartbreaking circumstances, as they let a late lead slip to lose out on any points. A season ago, they only lost one league away match when netting first, suffering a 3-1 defeat at Birmingham City.

On the opposite side, Ryan Mason made his debut as manager of West Brom and saw his side ease their way to a 1-0 triumph. The club are unbeaten in their last eight Championship fixtures played in August, a run that dates back to 2023.

Opportunities

Two different stories played out in the opening matchday of the season for these teams. Wrexham had a handful of missed opportunities against the Saints, with Conor Coady and Ryan Hardie among those who should have scored and put that game to bed before the 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Baggies didn’t give Blackburn much of anything in their match, limiting them to just one effort on target in the 90 minutes, and holding on quite comfortably after Isaac Price put them in front on 15 minutes.

A familiar team

While these teams have not faced each other in decades, there are plenty of Red Dragons who know West Brom well. James McClean’s last time in the Premier League was with the Baggies, and Jay Rodriguez was alongside the Irishman for that 2017-18 top-flight season. Steve Parkin, the club’s current assistant manager, played in the late 80s and early 90s at West Brom.
