Wrexham vs Burton Albion: TV channel, team news and predicted line ups

Wrexham will hope to return to winning ways when they host Burton Albion at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday lunchtime.

Phil Parkinson's side are still second in League One after a 2-2 draw with Cambridge United on Tuesday night, while Burton lost 2-1 to Stockport County to leave themselves three points from safety.

Struggles from top to bottom

Wrexham have had difficulty collecting maximum points against sides near the bottom of the table, making the race for that final automatic promotion incredibly tight as Wycombe have a game in hand on the Red Dragons.

Wrexham have dropped nine points in League One this season versus teams currently in a relegation position, seven away from home. However, Burton have not collected a single point against any of the top six teams in the hunt for promotion.

Saves the day

Wrexham and Burton both boast good goalkeepers who have been kept busy throughout the League One campaign.

Max Crombie is third in the league in terms of saves per 90, according to FotMob at 3.3. Arthur Okonkwo is the co-leader for save percentage, as he and Birmingham City’s Ryan Allsop are at 76.9% in the league campaign.

The One to Watch

Since he moved to North Wales in the January transfer window, Sam Smith has not only scored timely goals but also been a massive workhorse, winning balls all over the field and finding ways to get into good scoring positions despite a lack of service.

The 27-year-old striker also tends to have his share of big games against Burton Albion. Smith has played in eight matches versus the Brewers in his career and found the back of the net eight times. His best performance was a hat-trick in a 4-3 victory for Cambridge United in the 2022-23 League One season. He scored in both matches played against them this season when he was at Reading.

Cambridge United vs Wrexham TV Channel and how to watch

US viewers can watch full coverage on Paramount+ with kick-off from 12:30pm BST on Saturday 5 April. Match highlights will be available on the club’s official YouTube channel as well as the EFL channel.

Team news

Andy Cannon remains on the long-term injured list for Wrexham with a cruciate ligament tear, while Luke Bolton and Will Boyle are still unlikely to play because of calf strains. Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer are both out of favour and have not been selected in recent weeks by Phil Parkinson.

On the Burton side, Geraldo Bajrami is likely still recovering from a cruciate ligament tear, while former Wrexham striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, who scored four goals in his first four games at Burton, hasn’t played since being taken off with a knock in the 2-0 victory on 15 March 15 against Shrewsbury. Burton captain Ryan Sweeney was taken off in the first half against Leyton Orient on Tuesday and is a doubt.
