Barnsley vs Wrexham: TV channel, team news and predicted line ups

Wrexham will be looking to start the new year in style when they travel to Oakwell for a League One clash with Barnsley.

The Red Dragons ended 2024 with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic, moving back into second place, while Barnsley are only a point behind the playoff positions in seventh following a 3-1 victory against Peterborough United.

Leaving it late

Both of these sides have established a reputation for late heroics so far this season. Five of Wrexham’s league victories this season have come thanks to goals scored beyond the 75th minute. At the same time, they have allowed five beyond the 85th minute and dropped six points as a result.

Many of Barnsley’s matches have come down to the wire as well, with the Tykes netting three match-winning goals during the final five minutes of matches. They’ve conceded with 15 minutes or fewer remaining five times, resulting in 12 points dropped, including a late winner by Wrexham’s Ollie Rathbone in early December.

Chance creators

Another thing these two sides have in common is they both boast a wide player with an incredible attacking threat. Ryan Barnett leads the league with seven assists while creating nine big chances so far this campaign. For Barnsley, Corey O’Keefe has notched five assists and has also created nine big chances across the season. He might have had more assists to his name if not for the fact Barnsley have missed the second-most big chances in League One this season (35).

Team News

Arthur Okonkwo and Elliot Lee were back in Wrexham’s matchday squad on Sunday, with the later coming on as a substitute in the recent win over Wigan. That leaves Callum Burton (thigh), Jack Marriott (fibula) and James Jones (foot) out with injuries.

As for Barnsley, Marc Roberts and Josh Earl missed their previous match with knocks, while Gabriel Slonina was recalled from his loan move by parent club Chelsea.

TV Channel

Wrexham's away trip to face Barnsley WILL be shown live on the Sky Sports+ channel in the United Kingdom. It will also be made available to watch live on iFollow Wrexham. US viewers can watch full coverage on Paramount+.
