Wrexham vs Rotherham: TV channel, team news and predicted line ups
Wrexham host Rotherham United in the League One fixture this weekend.
Wrexham will look to keep their automatic promotion dream alive when they host Rotherham United at the Racecourse Ground this weekend.
The Red Dragons squeaked past Huddersfield Town in midweek to remain two points behind Wycombe Wanders for second, while the Millers are 14th following an impressive 1-0 win over Leyton Orient.
Home woes
The Racecourse Ground hasn’t been the fortress we remember for Wrexham lately, who are winless in their last four competitive fixtures at home. That’s their longest winless run at home since October to December 2007 (eight). They’ve also lost four of their last five league games against Rotherham, winning 1-0 earlier this season.
The Millers have won their previous two away matches versus the Red Dragons but haven’t won any of their last 10 away league fixtures against Welsh sides.
By the skin of their teeth
Both teams have had their share of narrow results throughout this League One campaign. Phil Parkinson’s men have had 19 league matches decided by a single goal, winning 13 of those games. Eight of those victories have come thanks to a goal scored in the final 20 minutes.
Steve Evans’ men have also had some memorable finishes this season, with 18 of their league matches decided by one goal and Rotherham winning eight of those encounters. They’ve won six league matches thanks to a goal beyond the 70th minute and have lost five times due to a goal conceded in the final 20 minutes.
Match Winners
These two teams not only have a knack for the dramatic, but each have players that have been difference-makers.
For Wrexham, Steven Fletcher’s contributions off the bench are arguably the biggest reason they’re still in the hunt for an automatic promotion. The Scotsman has netted five match-winners in League One this season, all beyond the 80th minute. Former Rotherham midfielder Ollie Rathbone has also been huge to the promotional run, netting a lovely winner against Barnsley in December and setting up Fletcher’s winner versus Peterborough in January.
On the other hand, Rotherham have two attacking players who’ve made a difference at times: Sam Ndombe and Mallik Wilks. Ndombe has nine goals in League One this season, three in the final 20 minutes, with two winners in stoppage time. Wilks has two goals beyond the 70th minute, one of which served as a winner in stoppage time.
