Wrexham travel to face Crawley in League One on Saturday afternoon

Wrexham will be looking to bounce back from a shock home defeat when they travel to face Crawley Town in League One on Saturday afternoon.

A 3-2 defeat versus Stevenage kept the Red Dragons third in League One, six points from an automatic promotion, while Crawley defeated Mansfield Town 1-0 to help their fight from relegation.

It’s been a complicated campaign for Rob Elliot at Crawley Town, with his team rarely able to string together consistently strong performances.

Their victory over Mansfield Town ended a seven-match winless run for them in this competition. They enter this contest without a victory in their previous two League One home games, scoring just one goal over that stretch.

Wrexham haven’t been much better away from the Racecourse Ground and are without a win in three straight league away, including back-to-back defeats. Another defeat this weekend would mark the first time they lose three straight league matches away from home since February 2024.

Crawley have won five of their nine Football League games versus sides from Wales but have emerged victorious in only two of their previous 10 league contests at home. Wrexham and Crawley have only met three times before in the Football League, with the Welsh side winning each of those matches by a combined margin of 7-2.

There’s no denying Paul Mullin’s been underwhelming in the goalscoring department this season, netting just twice in 26 League One appearances. Facing Crawley Town, however, may be just what he needs to get back on track.

The Wrexham striker has faced the Red Devils 12 times in his career and found the back of the net on six of those occasions, including a brace at home against them in a 4-1 victory for Wrexham last season.

He’s only scored once at Broadfield Stadium, though, notching two for Morecambe in a 3-1 victory during a League Two encounter in 2017.

Callum Burton will miss this match for Wrexham again due to a torn thigh muscle. Ryan Longman made his first appearance since signing from Hull City, while Jack Marriott is pushing to start coming on as a substitute on Tuesday.

Ryan Sandford remains doubtful for Crawley with an ankle ligament tear, while Joy Mukena recently suffered a freak injury in training. At the start of this week, they signed Rory Feely from Barrow to a one-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
